Details
Off-grid shipping container home currently located in Castro Valley, California. This space was built with a lot of intention and care. It was originally designed as an overflow living area for our family when our daughter was born. My wife and I have lived a minimalist, off-grid lifestyle for over 12 years, and this home was created to reflect the tiny house on wheels that we live in ourselves.
The design focuses on what we believe small spaces should be: simple, efficient, and capable of operating independently. During the early years of our daughter’s life, this space allowed us to stay close to her while still maintaining our own sleeping loft. It’s a home that holds meaning for us, and we’re hoping to find someone who will appreciate the lifestyle it was designed for. 🌿
The house is four years old and fully equipped for off-grid living, including solar power, propane hot water, and thoughtful built-in storage. It can be placed anywhere with good southern exposure on a flat surface such as concrete or asphalt. The container was originally transported from Missouri to California on a flatbed truck and moves like a standard shipping container.
Home Features
20 ft x 8 ft shipping container structure (11’6” tall)
Two lofted sleeping areas with built-in storage
Full kitchen with stove, oven, microwave, and large refrigerator
Bathroom with sink, shower, and composting toilet
Washer/dryer combo unit included
Closet and additional storage space
Ceiling fan for air circulation
Heater and air conditioning installed
Off-Grid Power System
Roof-mounted solar panels
48-volt electrical system
Eight 6-volt batteries stored in an enclosed exterior workbench box
Batteries are four years old with an estimated 10-year lifespan
Wind turbine included for optional additional power
Hot water is provided by an on-demand propane heater, giving efficient energy use while still supplying full hot water for the shower and sink.
The bathroom currently uses a composting toilet to match the off-grid design. For buyers who prefer a flushing toilet, the nearby plumbing makes it possible for a plumber to install one if desired.
This home is ideal for someone who appreciates independence and minimalist living. Off-grid life requires a bit of involvement, but it also offers a level of freedom that many people are looking for today. 🔆
The structure needs to sit on a flat surface such as concrete or asphalt and can be relocated like any standard shipping container.
If you’re interested or have questions, feel free to reach out. I’m happy to talk through the setup and help the next owner understand how everything works.
