Puyallup Tribe of Indians Village

Tacoma Washington, United States

Details

An Opening Day Ceremony took place on March 11, 2021. The Puyallup Tribe of Indians collaborated with the Low Income Housing Institute (LIHI) for a project named ʔay’gʷasilali (pronounced Igwasilali), a Whulshootseed term meaning “place of transformation.” Located on Puyallup trust land, this community provides 30 tiny homes, offering shelter for up to 35 Tribal members aged 18 and older, including individuals, couples, veterans, seniors, students, and pet owners. Each tiny house measures 8 feet by 12 feet, is insulated, and comes equipped with heat, electricity, and a locking door. Amenities include a community kitchen, cultural activities, hygiene facilities, and laundry services housed in a separate communal building. Case management is available on-site 24/7, provided by Low Income Housing Institute staff. The Puyallup Tribe of Indians Village serves as a transitional housing option.
